Day 47 / 30.03.13 / decoded

Today was spent stuck to a screen writing HTML for a new website for Lets Eat Local, our organic and seasonal veg bag scheme. Thing is, I don’t really know HTML and CSS well so have to learn as I go. Some good websites I stumbled on are:

  • w3schools – all the basics, more a dictionary than a tutorial. Good for answering the question “What the fuck does than mean?”
  • Net Tuts +, CSS Tricks, Stack Overflow, Google! – There are so many experts out there, ask the Internet “How the fuck do I do that?” and more often than not it will deliver.
  • Dev7 studios –  a software company based in Elgin. They proved opensource code (that means free, people!) for an beautifully sleek photo slideshow carousel, the Nivo Slider. No watermarks or nothing. Best find so far.
  • Edge Web Fonts – free fonts that just take a few lines of code and they’ll work on most computers. Black magic, basically. And this site helps for viewing the fonts side-by-side.

So, it is possible to pick it up as you go, you just need to have a curious mind, a lot of perseverance and loads of coffee! Screenshots will be posted soon.
